Proto Layer
West Bend, WI
Proto Layer is a 3D printing shop in West Bend, Wisconsin, making prototype, replacement, and production parts through engineering-grade 3D printing, with a focus on how the finished part needs to perform — not just how it looks on the build plate.
Proto Layer is built around high-speed machines and set up to keep production moving. Parts don't sit in a queue waiting for someone else to get to them, and we service the equipment ourselves. When something drifts, we can catch it, diagnose it, and fix it.
We check machines against parts with known results and re-check them when materials or key components change. Every job gets our attention because every job is ours.
Proto Layer started with kit printers — the kind you assemble yourself before you can print anything with them. That hands-on experience still shapes the shop today. We build, tune, and repair our own hardware so we can diagnose problems, maintain consistency, and keep production moving.
We spend a lot of time testing materials and combinations to understand how they behave in real parts. Strength, durability, printability, and finish all matter, but the right balance depends on the application. We use that experience to help choose the material that fits the job.
Some parts call for more than additive manufacturing. We work with trusted partners to bring in the processes and components your project needs.
Send the file, drawing, or details and we'll help determine the right approach.
